This season we worked with Gem Hale for the OBEY Artist Series. Gem is a photographer and director based in the Americas, with roots in Texas. A graduate of the BFA Photography program at SAIC, his work has been showcased in local print, online and physical exhibitions from an early age. Gem also produces limited edition books and zines documenting his personal projects and travels.The OBEY Artist Series collection featuring Gem Hale releases this Friday, August 14th at obeyclothing.com. Each purchase includes a zine, "Texas 4ever," featuring photographs by Gem.

“BOOK” AMSTERDAM “BOOK” is an ephemeral bookshop imagined by publisher Kermesse, with a wide selection of new and old books curated by artist Victor Unwin.Art books, design books, fashion books, literature books, conceptual books, books on books…After Paris and Berlin, “BOOK” AMSTERDAM was a new occasion to reflect on the communities and ecosystems generated by even the simplest printed matter.
 This time we are joined by Amsterdam-based bookshop Athenaeum Nieuwscentrum, a local hub offering a plethora of interesting print.We are all book rats — so thank you to all for having joined the book rat circle.

Mathieu Courbier works as Almost Free Services, who explores his own world as a mixture of art and design through exhibitions or commissioned work. A conversation with Almost Free Services and OBEY Clothing on Messenger. So. Tell me about the name: Almost Free Services.Got this ironic name after stop my art direction studio ten years ago. I just wanted to draw again and feel more freedom. I guess it’s my in between having projects and doing just what I want to do. Art Direction Studio? Please expand.I created with my friend Julien Rivoire an Art direction and graphic design studio, we mainly work with record labels on videos and identity and probably more often on boring motion projects for bigger companies. I think I put a lot of energy on our merch more than finding new clients haha Nice. Why do you think it makes sense for you to work on this project with OBEY?I think what speaks to me with the work of Shepard and Obey since the early days is the fact of DOING, posters, clothing, exhibition, murals…doing is a strong act. I’m really committed to work and hand work without being against technology but I think design is about making. You don’t really need to speak if you do. And I think that I also like people and brands with opinions and their own way of thinking.I think it’s half an answer; the fact that the brand came from the brain of an artist is something that allows me to push the creativity on both the clothing collection and exhibitions and trying to be fully coherent. Hold up. Some more about you, where are you from, etc?Yep, born and raised in a small city in south East France, not fancy suburbs. Always drew a lot and being obsessed with skateboarding for a long time. I felt in love with the practice and also with all the clothing, style, brand part. The whole thing was kind of magical for me. A great escape. Then I moved to Grenoble near the Alps and then Lyon for 15 years. Now i’m back in the South in the beautiful antique city of Arles.Started to exhibit my drawings around my 19 and going through exhibition for a few years, till my 25. And worked in retail and as buyer for several years. İt’s later that I combine my personal work as collaboration with brands I like. What makes France better than the rest of the world?We are in pole position on complaining about everything BUT we hate as much as we love.What do you love? Ps. Got final conformation so Shepard approved collection. I will remember that line for a long time. Haha that’s super cool that the legend approved my drawings. The very Young me is really happy. Haha good. What do you love?I love books, mainly photography ones, i think photography inspired me at some point. And music, got troubles being focus without music. Yes, I know you love music and you also love dancing, tell me about that.Haha not a big story on dancing but i went to night-clubs a lot from like 14/15 yo till my 19/20 yo. Really about dancing and loud sounds and having fun with friends obviously. We also breakdance on the plaza of the village a lot haha s/o 213 crew. Also you’re a movie hater. That’s extremely French of you.İt’s not I hate movies but I’m not curious about it. I have my Classics but definitely not into movies. Sounds too much artifices, money, people, marketing to explain « human » stories…it’s just too much. Also, I can’t stand now all the anticipation movies of a dark world…with wars and destruction. İt’s already a lot like this right now in several places in the world. Sounds not fun or a distraction to me. But I can applause all the great techniques used in movies, props, matte paintings…always impressiveİ’m a documentary guy.Yes. Give us one tip10 years with Hayao Myazaki. Impressive. İt’s an intense person, he dives deep in himself to create his art. Okay. For Spring 2026, OBEY and French shoemaker Paraboot join forces for the very first time on the Montana and a limited range of premium apparel. Counterculture meets craftsmanship.This unison arises from shared legacies of sticking true to ethos over time. Leaving a print amidst the noise.The core of this capsule is the Montana, a charming nod to 1970s climbing shoes. On a canvas of premium pebbled-leather, OBEY has embossed the tongue with the Icon Face – a bold symbol of counterculture devised by OBEY-founder and artist/activist Shepard Fairey. A subtle chartreuse-hue serves as accent stitching, an ode to the rugged Chartreuse mountains that rest across from the Paraboot factory in France.The premium line of apparel lends itself to aesthetics of American baseball, with a contemporary touch of French flair. The ‘Bochy Embroidered Shirt’ is a button-up striped shirt with Paraboot embroidery and an OBEY-branded woven label. The piece takes its name from Bruce Bochy, an American-French baseball manager.“Krank” is an old slang term that denotes a passionate, eccentric and often noisy baseball fan. It made sense to embody this energy into the heavyweight printed ‘Kranks Tee’.The Lanceur pant (French for ‘pitcher’) is a straight-leg pleated cotton trouser which links the capsule all together.‘Noiseless Ascent’ is the campaign that director Martin Malnoë brought to life for this collaboration. Set in the depths of the Paraboot factory, he takes cues from OBEY’s visual language and the No Wave avant-garde music and art movement of 1970s New York.Bright glares and industrial cacophony crescendo into audio-visual harmony, a vessel for the resilience of Paraboot craftsmanship and punk attitude of OBEY. The collaboration is available now online in the EU and North America and at select retailers worldwide.

OBEY the Night Vol 2. was a success. On February 10th, OBEY Harajuku dropped a limited run of tees in collaboration with HOME, and the space filled up quick. HOME @home_band_ delivered a live performance that set the tone for the evening, while Whelmey @asako___ carried the momentum with a DJ set that kept the room moving.

Ryan has been rocking an OBEY wardrobe for as long as he’s had adult money. While being a fan of the clothes, he also takes pride in supporting the brand for its political stances and humanitarian efforts. He left it up to his tattoo artist to surprise him with a more permanent addition to his OBEY uniform. Cado approved.

Since 2018, founder Paige Silveria has organized site-specific art, music, dance and other conceptual presentations, pop-up shops, art-book fairs, limited-edition collaborations, printed publications and hosted a live-stream tv show. Projects have been presented in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, Paris and Biarritz with collaborators including Dover Street Market, Vitsoe, Opening Ceremony, Marc Jacobs, Procell Vintage, Dashwood Books, Domicile Tokyo, Peels Paints, Token 4 U, The Standard Hotel, Miami Design District, Vanna Kitty and Budweiser. We’re excited to finally work together with Paige Silveria for our Paris Art Space. Paige curated an amazing group of women that we’d love to introduce. LOUISE Louise Sauvard is a young French photographer based in Paris. She graduated with highest honors from the École des Arts Décoratifs PSL in 2024. Between 2022 and 2025, she developed a photographic project within a sorority where she lived in Paris. In her photographic practice, she dissects rooms, the intimate spaces that surround her. In the rooms she photographs, a movement of collective disobedience emerges; her appropriation of space gives birth to new mythologies. CAMILLE Camille Soulat (b 1991) grew up in Montluçon, France. She is self-taught and uses mediums ranging from digital painting and writing, to video installation. Her practice revolves around an intimate form of narration. She concentrates on nostalgic subjects and scenes with super-natural undertones. Through the diffuse shapes and silhouettes of her digital paintings, Camille exhibits a certain fascination for the transformation of ordinary moments into events. Interested in notions such as marginality, geek culture or adolescence, she directs her practice around an interpretation and a celebration of the codes associated with both pop culture and counterculture. SARASara Kaaner is a designer, artist, DJ, and tattooist with main focus on designing shoes and bags. Drawing from avant-garde art histories, underground music cultures, and experimental film, her work explores identity and performance by bringing together those different artistic disciplines. Her practice is grounded in upcycling and material experimentation, using deconstruction and reconstruction to rethink how objects function, appear, and communicate. GRETGret Antenna is a multimedia artist based in Paris working with photography, installation, and digital images, influenced by media theory. Her work looks at how contemporary images circulate independently of their sources, shaped by distance and technical mediation. Through constructed environments, she focuses on instability and abstraction rather than narrative or representation. ROMYRomy Rosenthal is a Paris-based artist, designer, researcher, and archivist. Her work is shaped by a deep interest in futurism, design, architecture, urbanism and psychogeography.

In a new feature, we wanted to highlight a member of the OBEY team, Andrey Tarasov. We first met Andrey as a model for the brand over 6 years ago, weeks before the world shut down with the pandemic. He just had an energy about him. Come to find out he’s the nicest, most inclusive person ever and it doesn’t hurt that he rips on a skateboard too. So, what do you do in that situation? You ask him to work with you. From his early life in Russia to immigrating to the US, and then his leap of faith on a move to Los Angeles, we take a look at Andrey’s story and creative process. Mark McGowan discovered Shepard Fairey’s work 20 years ago when he first moved from England to America. He was hit with unexpected culture shock seeing the logical contradictions embedded in American culture, including the widespread use of religion to promote guns and the death penalty, while simultaneously opposing social policies like free healthcare. While trying to reconcile with this cognitive dissonance, Mark resonated with Shepard Fairey’s work, which boldly acknowledged and questioned these contradictions. It struck such a chord that he was inspired to immortalize the art on his body and wear it proudly on his sleeve.
